Milia,Symptoms and causes

 What are milia?

You can think of milia as like a little tiny cyst. It almost has a cyst wall to it and this is different from a whitehead or some other lesions that we may get on the face and the milia are actually proteins filled with keratin. Keratin is the cell on the outer layer of our skin that makes up our hair and that's why it looks white in appearance and these are usually non-inflammatory.

When people hear that It's a cyst they're thinking like a big ball under their skin but milia tend to be really small and we have seen it two different ways. We have seen clusters of it and then we have also seen just like one-off little bumps, they kind of look like whiteheads.

Milia also form on the eyelid and near eyes. To know how you can recover from milia on eyelids click here.

Difference between milia and whiteheads

The most accurate way to get the diagnosis is getting it looked under a microscope so that way the physician or dermatologists know what the substance actually is?

Whiteheads

Whiteheads are basically closed comedones and these basically see if we are getting trapped underneath a thin layer of skin the pore is not open and exposed to the air.

This can happen a lot among a lot of breakup from people or someone who has a really really active sebum production so the excessive sebum when it mingles with dead skin cells and when they fall in love with each other and

they never know when to leave that's when the white head and the white thug happens and it's often less painful or painless compared to other acne types it is known as non-inflammatory acne which means that there are no white cells attacking an acne bacteria it's purely clogged pores.

Causes of whiteheads

  • The common cause is your excess sebum production meeting the dead skin cells built up on top of the pores so it really does block the sebum from flowing and really excreting and getting out of the pore tunnel so the dead skin cells are interfering with the pathway of the sebum excretion.

  • Might be your skin being really really dehydrated.

  • When you apply a thick layer of cosmetics this can actually block the pile of sebaceous units and lead to the accumulation of sebum in this area and causing the formation of blackheads and whiteheads.

Treatment of whiteheads

Basically, we want to reduce the accumulation of oil and this keratin in the hair follicle opening.

You can use creams and gels that contain salicylic acid. Salicylic acid tends to concentrate in areas where there are oil-forming glands.

When it concentrates in these areas it tends to shed the dead skin and lets the oil come out smoothly okay so this leads to a reduction in the formation of whiteheads.

You can use salicylic acid as a face wash formulation you can use two percent salicylic acid face wash. So first you will wet your face on the damp face you'll apply the face wash lather it on leave it on for about 30 seconds to a minute try to form a foam on the forehead and nose and chin area and also on the cheeks.

Remember to not use too much force and try to rub it very gently with it .Try to foam it on your face, leave it on for about 30 seconds to a minute and then you can wash it off with lukewarm water. This will help in loosening the keratin and reduces the accumulation of sweat and dirt in your open pores.

Milia

Milia are pretty much known as the skin protein getting trapped under your skin so this is not sebum or does this not your pore issue is actually a keratin overgrowth issue so it happens a lot among newborn babies it happens a lot particularly on the most delicate area on your skin or on your eye area.

I think this is probably the easiest to diagnose because it has a pretty obvious pearly white.

Causes of milia

The causes of Milia is pretty interesting because it happens when your skin turnover slows down a lot or you are using a lot of heavy product or your crazy product around the eyes so the keratin keeps building up or keeps growing without your skin really turning over it it can be often associated with your genetics or is Sun-induced damage.
